"We're Smokin' Reefer. And You Don't Want No Part of This Shit."

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is damn funny. How the hell anyone comes up with the idea to do a parody of Walk the Line and other musician biopics is a bit confusing to me—I mean, like, why?!

But the jokes land over and over again, a testament to longtime collaborators Judd Apatow and Jake Kasdan. They learned to work together quite well on the brilliant, short-lived Undeclared and the equally brilliant, equally short-lived Freaks and Geeks.

When the film gets to its gross interpretation of The Beatles by Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Justin Long, and Jason Schwartzman, it's goofy and sublime. But perhaps the greatest pleasure here is seeing Tim Meadows back in action. He was always one of those unsung Saturday Night Live cast members whom I always admired, and I even thought (surprisingly) that The Ladies Man movie was a pretty good comedy. (I know, I know, you just have to trust me on that one.) So here's Tim Meadows in one of my favorite scenes in Walk Hard, in which he warns John C. Reilly's Dewey Cox about the dangers of marijuana—a drug that may just lead the self-destructive singer onto a path of brutal addiction:
