Hair dye in a jar and highlights from Schwarzkopf

In the newspaper I saw an ad with a new type of hair dye from Schwarzkopf: hair dye in a jar. Nothing too special, since you still have to mix the ingredients (although I bet the texture is much more rich than the liquid in the normal bottles). But what did catch my eye was the fact that my drugstore would pay me back the amount, which is ten euros. So I went to my drugstore (Kruidvat), and got it.

It's called Schwarzkopf Color Mask and costs 11 euros. I usually use the L'Oreal Excellence cream for around the same price. There weren't many shades available, not as many as there were on the website.

This is the shade I got, a golden brown (shade 556):

I felt a bit sad looking at this comparison in the store since I like my before color more than the expected after result, but this was the closest I could get to light brown and I could really use a free hair dye at the moment. Why is that, you say, as I already like my hair?

Well, it's because I'm going to try highlights... For the first time in my life. So as you know my hair is both naturally medium brown AND dyed medium brown. I got a box from Schwarzkopf that said that I can use it on dyed hair as long as my hair is some kind of brown... Here is the box:

I got the new hair dye because I need something to dye my hair again if this fails! Does anyone have experience with putting highlights in dyed hair? If so, please leave a comment with your opinion.

So next week or so I'll do an update on both the "hair dye in a jar" AND the Schwarzkopf Highlights.

By the way, you can choose to leave the highlighting product in less longer (30 minutes) if you just want subtle highlights and not the strong ones on the box. I think I will try keeping time, but the strong highlights only take 40 minutes so there's not much time to put the product in all of the hair.

Maybe I should have played it more safely buy getting highlights specially designed for brown hair, like these:

But like I said, the ones from Schwarzkopf can be used on all shades of brown (not blonde or black). Anyway, I'll keep you updated!
